Winter Shelter

This collection of work is inspired by local woodlands. Whilst bare trees and woodland can look stark in autumn and winter, they provide essential shelter, food and protection for wildlife. A complex network of branches can provide camouflage for birds and mammals. Evergreens like holly, ivy and brambles provide protection - places for birds and mammals to shelter and hide. A profusion of fungi can provide food as can acorns and nuts. And whilst it might be tempting to think life slows down in the cold, winter is the best time to listen out for tawny owls, woodpeckers and foxes as this is their courtship season. If you’re lucky you might hear the drumming of the great-spotted woodpecker amongst the trees, or the distinctive sound of the red fox and the famous 'twit-twoo' calls of tawny owls as the light dims.

This work will be made available via my shop as prints and cards.
